Who we are
The South Wales Baptist Association (SWBA) was formed in 2001 when the 3 Associations of the South Wales Group merged. Its part of the Baptist Union of Great Britain and works closely with the Baptist Union of Wales, with whom we hold a joint annual Assembly, 'Momentum', each June in Carmarthen. SWBA is in membership of the Evangelical Alliance, CYTUN and the Free Church Council of Wales.
SWBA is made up of over 140 member churches spread across South Wales from Broadhaven in the west to Chepstow in the east, and from Barry in the South to Brecon in Powys. The churches vary in size and are located in a variety of situations where they seek to make Jesus known in their own communities. Please see Church Finder page for contact details for all our churches and their key leaders.
Our vision, as part of our Baptist Union of Great Britain, is “Growing healthy churches in relationship for God’s mission” and SWBA exists to encourage the building and development of healthy churches and to enable them to assist each other in mission in their community, Wales and the world. From our earliest beginnings in the 17th century Baptist churches in Wales have worked in association with each other to plant and develop churches across the nation.
As we focus on making vision reality, we are committed to intentionally developing a culture where we:
Seek to be a movement of Spirit led communities
Feel like one team
Share a hunger for God's coming Kingdom
The two key priorities for us as Baptists Together at the moment:
Ignite – The ministry of everyone, coupled with the gifts of leadership, is critical for us to develop and harness if we want to see our vision become reality. Baptists Together are engaging in a thoroughgoing re-imagining of the sort of ministries we need for the future and the best way to support, develop and release them.
Fit for mission – Our vision is for all our churches to be growing, healthy churches and to see more new churches and missional communities planted as well. In 2015 the Baptists Together Mission Forum are working collaboratively with local churches to create a comprehensive, national picture of the health of our churches so that we can use this as a benchmark for prayer, discernment and action.
